Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres Festival

On the fifth week after Easter (from Friday to following Thursday).

t’s the most important religious festival of the Azores and the second largest in Portugal.

This devotion to the Holy Christ of Miracles has its roots in the 17th century and takes place every year during Whitsunday season.

Thousands of Azorean people travel from the other islands, from the mainland and the US, Canada and Brazil, for these countries are home to Azorean immigrants.

The São Francisco Square and the Esperança Convent are the meeting point for believers in the Ecce Homo, or ‘Lord of the Islands’, devotion.
