Carlos Machado Museum — Santo André Center

When it was founded in 1876 by Carlos Maria Gomes Machado at the former High School of Ponta Delgada it was called the Azorean Museum. Here were gathered, with the purpose of research (and later displayed, in 1880) collections in the fields of zoology, botanic, geology and mineralogy.
In 1914, in order to pay homage to its founder, the name was changed to Carlos Machado Museum.

Dispersed by several buildings, the collections expanded by way of gifts from remarkable Azoreans and, in 1930, were housed under one single roof: the Santo André Convent.

In 2016 new and improved circuits were inaugurated at the old convent.
