Ernesto do Canto

He was born in 1831 and died in 1900, in Ponta Delgada. He was a prominent Azorean personality, who occupied several important positions, among them the Presidency of the Ponta Delgada City Council and Presidency of the Autonomous General Board.

In the cultural sphere, he authored the Archives of the Azores. The bust is located in the Municipal Library and was created by José Carlos Almeida (1959), having previously been at Largo da Palmeira, on the same street.
