Humberto Medeiros
Humberto de Sousa Medeiros was a Cardinal Archbishop of Boston (United States). He was born on October 6, 1915, in Arrifes, having immigrated with his family to the United States in 1931. In 1946, he was ordained a priest of Fall River. He received the episcopal appointment as bishop of Brownsville in 1966 and archbishop of Boston in 1970. In 1971, through Pope Paul VI, he received the title of Cardinal, in which condition he witnessed the conclaves that elected, in 1978, Popes John Paul I and John Paul II. Dom Humberto Medeiros died in Boston on September 17, 1983. He was one of the most prestigious Azorean religious personalities, having degrees in Philosophy and Theology.
