Father Joaquim Silvestre Serrão

He was born in Palmela in 1801 and died in Ponta Delgada in 1877. He was a notable composer and teacher of sacred music. The limestone sculpture was built for the tombstone where his remains are and later transferred to the current location. The statue is by José Moreira Rato's workshop (1860-1937).
