Chapel of Nossa Senhora do Loreto – Parish of Fajã de Baixo

The date of 1820 inscribed in the frontispiece of this chapel does not correspond to its actual construction date, which was from 1699 on, by the initiative of Captain Lourenço de Frias Coutinho; it corresponds to the reconstruction of its façade, which thus was in harmony with the adjacent palace, a valuable architectural example of the eighteenth century. It is classified as a ‘property of municipal interest’, it’s owned by Margarida Read, who recently started rehabilitation works and recovered the tradition of the pilgrimage to Senhora da Boa Nova, whose painting on canvas (attributed to painter André Reinoso) dating back to the beginning of the 17th century can be seen inside the temple.
