Convent of São Francisco – Parish of São José

It belonged to the Order of St. Francis of Assisi — it is a majestic building of Franciscan origin and unique in São Miguel, since it congregates three spaces of prayer in its surroundings: one of invocation to Nossa Senhora da Conceição, queen of Portugal, another of invocation to Nossa Senhora das Dores and, lastly, one of invocation to Senhor dos Terceiros. Franciscan religious life was extinguished in the 19th century, after the decree of 1832, and the property was divided between the Parish of St. Joseph and the Santa Casa da Misericórdia.
