Fonte Bela Palace

It is a large construction, dating from the mid-nineteenth century, with neoclassical architectural symbols present in the two large gates. The wrought-iron work of the balconies came from Liverpool as well as some furniture. It was built by request of Jacinto Inácio Rodrigues da Silveira (1785-1869), Baron of Fonte Bela.

There is in this beautiful real estate (a fine representative of the sort in the Azores) a wing with painted and richly decorated ceilings. In the 1920s it was taken by the State, becoming whence a school, today the Antero de Quental High School.

The former presidents of the Assembly of the Republic Jaime Gama (2005-2009), and João Bosco Mota Amaral (2002-2005) studied in this school.
