House of José Maria Raposo de Amaral (Casa do Monte)
Also known as «Casa do Monte», it was here that at the beginning of November 1897 the flag of the Azorean administrative autonomy was hoisted for the first time. It had the colors of the national flag of the time, the center coat of arms was replaced by a flying goshawk topped by nine stars (a symbol of the nine islands of the Azores) and it had the crown and shield of Portugal on the upper corner of the blue stripe.
